The Bay of Islands Vintage Railway welcomes disabled visitors and wheelchair-bound people of any age.
Please give us notice of your arrival if you wish to travel along with your fellow passengers, friends and family as we may have to re-arrange carriages.
Weka, our cycle car, can be accessed using a ramp from Kawakawa station only. Please note the ramp can only cope with lightweight wheelchairs, and also that Weka is an open car without a roof. We also have a closed carriage, Pukeko, with a guard’s van.
There are steps for passengers boarding at Kawakawa.
The platform at the station in Kawakawa is on one level, as are the toilets and café. There is a long-drop toilet at Taumarere Station also, but it could not be considered wheelchair friendly, so we would advise visitors to use the toilet at Kawakawa Station before departing.
