Trains for Kings Birthday Weekend

  • BOIVR expect to run trains on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 2nd – 5th June.
Trains depart from Kawakawa Railway Station at 10am, 12 noon and 2pm (wet or dry weather) for a trip about 1 ½ hours to return to Kawakawa. We run trains all year.
There is no need to book. But please arrive at the station about 10 – 15 minutes before departure to allow time to purchase tickets from the platform shop.
Return fares: adult $30; NZ Gold card $25; school age child $10; child under school age free; family $70 (defined as 2 adults and up to 3 children). For more information re times and fares see under “Visitor Info”.
For cyclists – our trains operate as a cycle-train as a temporary link to join the Twin Coast Cycleway (Pou Herenga Tai) between Taumarere and Lone Cow in the Te Akeake area. This is a koha gold coin ‘Cycle-Train’ service.
We look forward to welcoming you all aboard!
Please be aware that due to recent poor weather and flooding in the valley, BOIVR may have to cease running trains at short notice for safety reasons if the water rises. The cycleway has been flooded between Kawakawa and Taumarere, but water is now receded.
