Big thank you to The Warehouse, Waipapa

BOIVR say a Big Thank You to The Warehouse, Waipapa, and all our supporters who shopped there during the ‘Bags for Good Neighbourhood’ initiative. A fantastic $856.68 has been donated to us as a result.

Thank you again to The Warehouse, Waipapa for enabling a not-for-profit charity to benefit through your scheme.

The Past

Over the past few years the volunteers of the Bay of Islands Vintage Railway Trust have achieved a great deal.

Only a few years ago, because every bridge still needed to be re-surveyed, trains only ran from the Railway Station through Kawakawa main street, to the first bridge out of town – a very short train ride!

The railway has now reached Taumarere, where a beautiful picnic and barbeque area has been developed. Many visitors have taken a picnic to enjoy the surroundings, and return on the next train - see News section.

The Future

Over the past few years the volunteers of the trust have achieved a great deal.

We have just finished having our famous "Long Bridge" restored and re-piled, which will allow trains to run on to Opua, after the rails have been re-instated.

We are now working towards realising our next major goal – to build a new station, cafe and visitors centre at Opua.

Please click here for more information.

The Experience

Visit us to enjoy a unique experience and a great family day out!

Visitors from all over the world enjoy our train rides through Kawakawa main street into the scenic Northland countryside.

Our knowledgeable Guards tell you about the History of the area and the role of the Railway in the development of North Island and New Zealand.

We are equipped to assist disabled guests, wheelchair users, school groups and private parties. We even welcome pets! Please ring for further information.
